Carey was 5'10 in height before she stepped up to the top model. She was a popular model with American designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was very high. In 1979 the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists elected the father of her Scientist of The Year. Carey's father was a scientist who travelled the globe as a part of his profession. She started modeling part time when she was a student attending university at the University of Colorado and caught the attention of an agent from the Ford model Agency in New York. The model briefly studied and lived in Paris after which she returned in New York. Her modeling and academic career rocketed and she was featured on Vogue's, Glamour's, as well as many other covers of magazines. While she was modeling, she was also a full-time student, completing a master's degree in literature at New York University. As she studied acting in the Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for acting grew. In 1986, she got her first role in acting as a small part in Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. White water rafting, skiing and rock climbing are among her preferred pursuits.
